george w. bush jr. and me

im going on vacation. well kind- of. American Athlete and I are heading over to DC to hang out on the coast, eat grandmas food, and walk around the white house. Seeing that I've never been to the east coast, this is exciting. And upon our return we will be buy tickets to go to New York for the first time (any suggestions on where to go and where to sleep would be helpful).

I intend to be lazy - no email, no myspace, and no blog. With this in mind, I went through my numerous copies of burned CDs and found some songs to hold you over. If this isn't enough for you, well then you are just greedy. Either way, beneith this text are numerous awesome songs that should be downloaded, listened to, and the bought at Phonica Records. Its just that good.

Kelly Pollar:
Hammer Anvil
Tyurangalila
Vocalise (morgan geist 12"re-edit)

Lindstrom:
Breakfast in Heaven
Pest og Kolega

Alden Tyrell:
Hills of Honolulu

this i give to you...

So Im not a big fan of live tracks. Most of the time they sound like shit because some kid snuck a tape recorder in the show and hit record and then stuffed it in his back pocket. That or the lead singers vocals sound nothing like the live recording and then all hope is lost and then the band is downgraded to a "less than cool" on my list because Fuck it - I could sing if I had 10 million dollars and a recording studio.

But anyways...I forgot to bring a CD from the box at home and therefore have nothing to post on this blog except a live track. (my appoligies). But atleast its a good one, its not like im handing you a live recording of TOOL.

Who Made Who - Space for Rent (live)

louden up. its time to start listening

So we all know Chk Chk Chk is awesome. and of course we love them. and it is certain that we want them to keep putting out albums. I saw them play in Seattle, WA last year at the Crocodile. The singer, Nic, should consider a career as a chip n'dales dancer. The drumming is awesome, amazing, makes you move. And Justin otherwise known to look like Jesus is fucking great! (saw this guy playing with Outhud in Sacramento, CA.... did like a 10 minute programming set..so good)

Anyways, thanks to myspace, Chk Chk Chk posted this information this morning:

"we've finally uploaded new music. one song is an instrumental of 'pardon my freedom' mashed with a popular janet jackson number (thanks to Del Piero); the other three are live outtakes and loops that hint at where the next album is headed..
aforementioned next album is due out october 2006- tons of touring before and after
***see each and every one of you fools this year***
xoox !!!"

The following are the clips they made available. You could also go to their WEBSITE or their MYSPACE and get the samples there.

monday mornings and saturday nights

Though dollar disco got off to a slow start, it ended in regular fashion - packed with people dancing and a few hoes in the back getting there "booty" on. two girls, one guy, and some asian tits. yes tits. I can't say it did anything for me, but I'm sure the overweight sweet dude dancing with the two ladies went home and got some good - not so virgin - vagina.

More importantly .... music. As i stated before, there was more than enough electro so much you might have to scream a few times to deal with the overwhelming irritated feeling one might get from hearing the same sounding songs 3, 4, 5 times in a row. But there were some noteable songs ... heres what i heard:

My "yea yea so what" music:

tribe called quest
b52's
daft punk
disco d
hot chip
munk
mstrkrft
fanny pack
blah blah blah ... the norm.

Its a running not so much joke ... but kinda joke that maybe someday we will be lucky enough to hear a lindstrom song at one of the dance nights (lipstick, vicious, dollar disco). It would be a monumental moment and I think the American Athlete and I would leave both leave the dance floor and go home after hearing that song just so the rest of the night wouldnt be ruined with sean paul remixs and booty tech crap. we didnt get much of lindstrom saturday night - a mere LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (lindstrom remix) was all we got. Not to say that the song is bad but it seems to be an around the the back way of getting lindstrom played.

Anyways there were two songs that i seriously enjoyed saturday night.

"click it and get it"
Who Made Who - Out The Door 12" Version
Miss Kittin - Rippin Kittin

i've been shellshocked

Bad week. Between betty k dying, barbara having breast cancer, Cindy's possibility of cancer, grandfathers staff infection getting drastically worse, and the shitty weather...I’ve just about collapsed and found it rather difficult to see the positive let alone feel that way. Wednesday thru Thursday have felt like the longest days I’ve had in years. I don’t think I’ve cried, cussed, or stared this much in the last 5 years. the miserable week has lead me to one band for mild inspiration and comfort.

new order. I have always thought myself to be a bigger joy division fan than new order. new order was good but they often felt to upbeat and rather gay. I have had a difficult time getting over the cheesy lyrics and vocals. I will always think older new order is best.. but for this week, new order has provided more for me than joy division ever did.

I’ve listened to these two songs at least twice every day since Thursday and they've done their job well. hopefully this week will get better seeing that in a week and half im leaving to visit DC and would like to be feeling a bitter happier than I am at the moment.

Enough loathing... this is it:

New Order - Ceremmony
New Order - Shellshock

put on your dancing shoes

its saturday and that means one thing - Im going Dancing. Dollar disco. Its the one night a month that there is a 50 percent chance I will hear Lindstrom (thank you sam). None of the disco classics or unclassics for that matter will be played but there will be a fair amount of other good stuff. And I am sure there will be enough electro to go around.

Side Note: I went to this record store today near the white trash ghetto and picked up some good stuff. They had some old Michael Jackson 7" and scored David Bowie Lets Dance for 2 bucks. American Athlete got Brian Enos Music for Films and a Patrick Cowley record. Good stuff.

I also found this today:

Franz Ferdinad - Outsiders (isolee remix)

Good Stuff.

19 May 2006

i'm talking

When this group decideds that their rock vocals suck and they should just stick to making dance hits I will be pleased. Anyways, they are still awesome and they have a variety of great songs. That being said...

Soulwax - E Talking
Soulwax - I Love Techno

PS: The guys over at T A P E had some great music up today. Yea you want it.

ride the white horse

Dollar Disco this weekend. which means dancing, dancing, drinking, and more dancing. It is the one time in the month we actually get the opportunity to hear Lindstrom and Prins Thomas played at a dance night. If we get lucky we might actually hear some disco which would be awesome. Its sad. Trust me I know. I just takes people sometime to come around. But no matter what, saturday night is a guarunteed dance till no ones dancing, stay out late, sleep in the next day, and eat eggs for breakfast dance night and I am looking forward to it.

I honor of the white pony with a horn here are some songs I could go for hearing:

Todd Terje - Eurodans

Goldfrapp - Fly Me Away (ladytron remix)

Future Force - Night Pony

and just for the sake of it (you all should have this by now):

Goldfrapp - Ride a White Horse

the ware"house"

I was listening to this song on the way to work this morning. I got a little too interested and decided to start searching for more information. Chicago acid / house depending on the day can be either good or bad to me. (Thats not to say I wouldn't dance my ass off at either the Music Box or the Warehouse)Influenced and following after italo disco (which I think I prefer more), still has some awesome and amazing songs that can get your body moving. Read more and buy more at Soul Jazz

Phuture - Acid Tracks

Mr. Fingers (Larry Heard)- Beyond the Clouds

ring...ring...ring

Aww Gramme. They have this little EP and then there is this 7" called Mine. And if this isn't good enough for you, Luke from the band records Tall Blonde which makes total sense once you hear them both. Anyways, they're good.

Gramme - Telephone Me
Tall Blonde - March of the Little Green Men

PS: You Send It is sucking ass today and I have no idea why. So if you can't get the songs my appoligies.

motivation and inspiration

I spent the evening reading most of Hillman Curtis book Practice, Inspiration, and Practice for the New Media Designer. About 1/3 of the book focused on being motivated and finding inspiration. Aside from the fact that the book is worth the reading, I found somethings worth sharing...

1. Pass along things that inspire you
2. Keep the things that inspire you to refer back to

Hillman Curtis has passed along Josef Muller - Brockman to me. I just bought Josef Muller-Brockmann's History of the Poster so that I will always have something to refer back to. His work is amazing. And something that should always be refered to for inspiration and motivation. You can see samples of his work Here

And for music that inspires, motivates, and spans creativity:

Dennis Young - Signal Up Ahead (remix)

a quick memo

Jill Scott seems to be loved not just by DFA but by Theo Parrish as well. I came across this song tonight.

Jill Scott - Slowly Surely(Theo Parrish Remix)

walk with me, dance with me

There are two things I want to do when I hear this music:
1: Dance
2:Walk through the East Village at 7:30 pm.

As always, Konk wrote some of the best songs that came out of New York in the early 80's along with James Chance, ESG, Mars, Suicide, blah blah blah, and every other band on New York Noise, No New York, and N.Y. No Wave. Between No Wave and New Wave I think I am almost satisfied.

Anyways, I picked up some awesome news today over at Banana Nutrament Tim Sweeny doing production.......and even a sample. Yeah. Go there now.

Konk - Soka Loka Moki
Konk - Machine Jam

four minutes and twenty six seconds

My moment of enjoyment so far today came from the 4 minutes and 26 seconds of which I put my headphones over both ears a listened to New Order - Ceremony and refused to be bothered (atleast for the moment). I got to dance to this song this past tuesday at Lipstick. It was good.

Anyways, the undenyable fact being that New Order and Joy Division belong in the top five lists of everyone who ever heard them. Atmosphere will be played at my funeral, Ceremony should be played at every dance night, and Love Will Tear Us Apart is the best pop song ever written. What more could you want.

Gorillaz - Kids With Guns (Hot Chip Remix)

space invaders

They are invading my privacy at work and adding 2G to my computer and making it the temporary server for the marketing department which consist of my and one other girl. More importantly - this means I have to get rid of all the evidence of my other passion Graphic Design. I think on average I work 40 minutes in my 8 hour day. The rest of the time I spend downloading music, looking for images, and creating flyers. Point being, I was sorting through files and found this:

Marvin Gaye - Clique Games/ Rick James (Original Version of "Midnight Lady")

James Brown - Sex Machine

Parliament - Agony of De Feet

html, baseball, and hot yoga

My brain is rather tired at the moment. Last nights Hot Yoga nearly killed me I think. And aside from the fact that every muscle in my body is sore and I am walking bow legged, my brain is starting to go as well. Seeing that I have little HTML experience, my boss thought it was a brilant idea for me to make an emailer. We'll fuck that. I've been staring at code for the last 5 hours and it still makes little sense to me.

But there is baseball and the A's. And I love the fact that they had a cardboard sign the read "We Miss Kendall" in the dug out yesterday. I think he has 2 more games left in the 4 game suspension and then he will be back. And lastly, screw the Angels.

I need a drink.

over and over

So I was going through files of old pictures to make space on my computer and I came across Juan Maclean when he did a DJ set in Seattle and then played a show later that night at the Crocidile. That was the second time I had seen him within the year, that previous show was at Chop Suey. I still can't seem to figure out why none of his shows pull in over 30 people and yet crap like Fall Out Boy sells out millions. Anyway, Juan Maclean along with DfA put on some of the best shows i've seen. Example 1: LCD Soundsystem at the Fools Foundation. No windows, brick walls, just sweat, a red light, and james murphy. The show killed expecially comparied to the next night at the Fillmore.

Anyways, DFA along with great shows has brought me awesome records. Example 2: Like when I went to the Record Store and sold back my Tool Box Set and some PJ Harvey cds. With 96 dollars in credit, I then bought every DFA 12" available. Even better was when I ran over in all my excitement and gave the records to American Athlete with the exception of the Beat Connection 12". (my personal favorite).

Anyways, that brings me to the moral of the story and Hot Chip. The moral is DFA makes good music and good music makes you feel good. And then Hot Chip, even if I've had this song for over a year, the song is bound to make you feel good.

Hot Chip - Look After Me
LCD Soundsystem - Slow Dive

night rider

Some of the best driving songs ever:
Erlend Oye - Ghost Trains
Morgan Geist - Lullaby
Waldorf - You're My Disco
Playgroup - Behind the Wheel

just say no.

Drugs are lame. Way lame(and I'm not talking about smoking pot). Doing drugs (coke, crack, ecstacy, blah blah) on a regular basis says a lot about someones character. Like any of the following:

I have little ambition because I think that I can get anywhere in life while doing drugs.
I have a hard time talking or being around people because I can’t seem to do it comfortably without being on drugs.
I haven’t grown out of being 21.
I’m stupid as hell because most drugs come from crap made in peoples bathrooms and anyone willing to put shit in there body that could have been stewed up in my shower where I pee is a idiot.

Music, the anti - drug:

Erlend Oye I'd Rather Dance With You

There is something about Blurt that is filthy and disgusting and genius all in the same moment. The sax drive me crazy, crazy like fat people eating fried chicken, crazy. Anyways, I'm not going to spend my time educating you, do it for yourself Blurt / Ted Milton .

Blurt - The Body that They Built to Fit the Car

Blurt - Get

a top five

I recently acquired my number one most wanted album - Elliott Smith Figure 8. And though it's not my favorite album by this artist, I am in love with the artwork and love the fact that I own it on record. Having a new record is like having a new toy. I just want to play with it over and over and show everyone. Occasionally, at times like this show and tell would be appropriate.
Anyways, now's a good time to give you my top 5 records I own list and a song from each would only be fitting...

Liquid Liquid - The Complete Discography
Push - Liquid Liquid

Arthur Russell - Calling Out of Context
That's Us/ Wild Combination

Brian Eno/ David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghost
Brian Eno/ David Byrne - Jezebel Spirt

No New York - Various Artist
Dish it Out - James Chance & The Contortions

Elliot Smith - Figure 8
Junk Bond Trader - Elliott Smith

guilty pleasures

The new girl in office today forgot to turn off her cell phone before she came to work. So in the middle of lunch Phantom Plant - California starts playing over her phone. And if that wasn't enough. The next call she got played Modest Mouse - Float On. As much as she irritates me, I felt guilty as I started thinking "Man, California is such a good song." I'm guilty. So guilty for liking a variety of crap that perhaps I shouldn't but i do. I like shit like The Sounds Tony the Beat - Brooklyn Fire Remix. And then there is Maritime Parade of Punk Rock T-shirts. And of course The Gossip Standing in the Way of Control. Honestly, this song makes me want to go out and buy a hot pink hip pack and start doing push up on the dance floor. My dad used to wear a hip pack to the movies. He'd put all the candy we bought at the 7/11 in it that way he didn't have to spend 10 bucks on 2 snickers in the movie theatre. Anyways listen to these:

Brennan Green Little Ease
New Young Pony Club Get Dancey
Carl Craig Angel(Caya Dub)
Alden Tyrell Voyagers End

its friday night and i feel alright

Its friday and everyone at work is excited to be wearing jeans. The board members are in town and they love the fact that today they get to where their Tommy Bahama Shirt to work. But its friday, and tomorrow I get to go dancing and on the way home from work I will get to listen to this song:

Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better

is the district sleeping

Sometimes, well often, often enough....somedays I wish I lived in a big city where i had access to all the music in the world. As it is, I drive every other week to San Francisco to go record shopping. Not that I mind the drive, but until the fucking republicans get out of office and gas drops below 3.25, driving to San Francisco will suck. And personal I hate how dirty the city is. It smells like shit and everyone is wasting time being "cool". I lived there once, and I am qualified to make these statements. Anyways listen to this:

Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom -Relevee (Carl_Craig_Remix)

memo

I looked for months for this song......

Who Made Who - Flat Beat
